Shopping

Shopping

Besides the big shopping centres in the cities, there are a myriad little shops in which you will find just what you have been searching for – if you know where they are. If you look at the map of Gaborone City, you will see Riverwalk Mall on the Tlokweng road; Fairground Mall in Fairgrounds Road; Game City on the main road out to Lobatse; Main Mall in Queen Street right in town; African Mall just a short walk from that off Independence or Kaunda Streets; and BBS Mall in Broadhurst.

Local Cuisine

seswaa

Botswana cuisine is unique but also shares some characteristics with other cuisines of Southern Africa. Examples of Setswana food include pap, samp, vetkoek, and mopane worms. A food unique to Botswana is seswaa, salted mashed-up meat. Watermelons are believed to have originated in Botswana. The markets of Botswana are filled with a large variety of foods. Some are grown locally using irrigation and some are imported from neighbouring countries. A large quantity of high-quality beef is raised in Botswana. Lamb, mutton, chicken and other meats are also plentiful. Beef is the most popular meat, followed by goat meat. River fish are also part of Botswana cuisine.

Music

Traditional dance crew

Music is a large part of Botswana culture, and includes popular and folk forms. Botswana church choirs are common nationwide. Music education is an essential component of the Botswana educational system, and children of all ages are taught traditional songs and dances. Just like other African countries, popular music in Botswana is called "jazz"; however, it has little resemblance to the African American genre of the same name. There is an initiative to focus on revitalizing the Botswana music industry, instead of relying on foreign releases. Popular music in Botswana still comes from South Africa, the United States, Europe or elsewhere in Africa.

Fashion Styles

Ask any Motswana what the traditional attire is, the answer will be none other than leteisi. Knowing very much that saying jeremani is the Setswana version for the German print fabric, they would prefer to run away from the obvious question: If it is the traditional attire why then is it called the German print?

Leteisi has for decades been an integral part of a Motswana woman. Not having it, as a Motswana woman is synonymous with not being a Motswana woman. This fabric is, in fact, used as uniform at numerous events including wedding ceremonies, funerals, and Kgotla meetings. [4]
